The Private Equity Wire European Awards follow a clear and transparent process. The pre-selection data for the GP fund manager shortlists is provided by Bloomberg. Candidates in all categories and asset size groupings are determined as follows:

1. The fund manager universe included all funds managed by European-domiciled GPs.
2. All funds in each category are grouped into their respective vintages and ranked on the basis of their net IRR.
3. For the performance categories, fund vintages from 2013 to 2018 were analysed.
4. All GPs that had more than one fund ranked among the top performers across these multiple vintages within any category were shortlisted.
5. For all categories, the minimum fund size was set at $100 million.
6. For the asset band groupings, asset thresholds were based on the respective individual fund sizes – not the overall assets under management of the GP in that category.
7. For the fundraising categories, GPs were ranked on the total assets raised in each respective strategy category for 2019 and 2020 vintage funds.

Voting for the eventual winners is then conducted via an extensive online poll of the Private Equity Wire readership over a period of several weeks. The Investment Excellence Awards, now in its fifteenth year, recognizes the achievements of asset managers and associated firms such as investment consultants and fund administrators. Eligible firms are invited to nominate themselves for awards. The questions are based on key achievements over the last 12 months, what attributes separate the organisation from their competitors, and a justification to why they should win the award. There are 30 categories of awards, 15 of which are specific to asset management.

Private Equity International Awards – Fund-of-Funds Manager of the Year in Europe 2014 | Awarded to Pantheon on March 2nd, 2015
The Private Equity International Awards are announced annually and are the only industry awards decided solely by the private equity industry, for the industry. PEI draws up a shortlist of four nominees in each award category and submits these nominations to voting by industry participants during December and January. Voters are also able to suggest alternative nominees and winners in a category. Voting closes in mid-January and the results are published by PEI in its Annual Review, published in March. As indicated on the Private Equity International website, the selection criteria is as follows; Firms cannot apply for these awards, but they have to be considered for it. This could be by raising a multi-billion dollar fund in a short-space of time, implementing a sophisticated value creation operation within their firm, closing a large, interesting deal or sealing a stellar exit. Or nifty handling of a sensitive public-relations issue. Or a creative fund restructuring. We hold lengthy discussions with several departments at PEI on which firms deserve to be nominated. Each category has four nominations. The shortlist is then published online for the readers of PEI to cast their votes.
